Chapter 20.2 · Food provenance across transformation and hand-off

Keep input material, output lot, packing unit and location relationships distinct in an anonymous food scenario.

Open a workspace beside this lesson. Protected links keep their existing access gates; no new permission is granted by this course.

Why this matters

A transformation creates a new output context; it does not make input and output identities equivalent.

Packing and movement evidence must preserve the product/lot trail without assuming what each later recipient knows or may disclose.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Draft a transformation trail

Screen or control: Chapter 20.2 field, packing and transit table

Why: Input, output and packaging answer different provenance questions.

How: Use an anonymous produce scenario. List input material, output lot, packing unit, processing location and observer; mark missing identifiers and dates unknown.

What you should see: A proposed transformation/packing graph.

Verify: No input identity is overwritten by the output identity.

  2. 02

Transfer the method, not the vertical claim

Screen or control: P3 material-role and step views

Why: The PCR sample illustrates composition mechanics but is not a live food platform.

How: Compare required input roles and output descriptions in one demo step. State what food-specific vocabulary, observations and validation would need to be added.

What you should see: A domain-transfer requirements list.

Verify: The laboratory fixture is not described as a food safety or recall system.

What is happening under the surface

Sketch input-lot to process to output-lot references, then separate packing and hand-off relationships.

A potential concern can prompt an evidence request. It is not a verified contamination, recall decision or guaranteed trace-time outcome.

Common mistakes

  • Inferring an output lot from a product catalogue identifier alone.
  • Repeating the book’s recall timings or safety outcomes as verified performance.

The records an agent needs

Current material and workflow fields are illustrative. Real food lots, transformations, custody evidence and authorized notifications are not implemented by these screens.

Pointers locate records; hashes pin bytes; lesson numbers locate teaching material. None substitutes for an applicable assigned GS1 identity.

Apply what you learned

Build a hypothetical food provenance envelope with one missing hand-off.

Prepare these outputs

  • Distinct input/output roles
  • Packing relationship
  • Missing hand-off evidence
  • Affected-scope investigation questions

Review your work against these checks

  • No contamination or recall is asserted
  • Missing custody remains explicit
  • Domain-specific requirements are not borrowed from PCR

Check your reasoning

A process transforms one material lot into an output lot. What should the graph preserve?

This answer stays in page memory, is cleared when you leave, and is not sent or recorded as certification, validation or authority.

This is an anonymous design exercise, not food-safety guidance, a legal recall instruction or proof of food-system deployment or traceability speed.

Current governance adds exact-source retention, unknown-state, disclosure, validation and scoped-authority safeguards. Those safeguards are not represented as quotations from the historical book.

Numeric lesson numbers are educational content locators, not GS1 identities. Linked public screens use an anonymous non-issued fixture; reading, retrieval and practice do not authorize physical/cloud execution or constitute model-weight training.
